Maria Svensson is a professional contemporary choreographer, producer, performer and teacher with a long experience and interest in Steiner education, her focus being in performance and interweaving dance with other art forms with a particular interest in how dance can make a difference in society. She holds a BA (Hons) in Dance Theatre from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, London and has worked as a dance artist since 2007 in mainly Sweden, London and Ireland (Dans i Värmland, Daghdha Dance Company, Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company).
Maria is currently dance artist in residence at An Lab, Dingle funded by the Arts Council and Kerry County Council. Moreover, she is artistic director of the solo dance festival Going Solo Together which takes place yearly in her hometown Örebro (SE). In 2017, as part of her residency, the bilingual version of the festival took place in Dingle co-directed together with Nick Bryson of Legitimate Bodies Dance Company. Aonarach Le Chéile / Going Solo Together premiered October 2017 with local, national and international artists.
Currently, Maria is creating new exciting work together with Cork born dance artist Cathy Walsh which will premiere during Féile na Bealtaine 2018.
I am interested in the art of improvising, in the moment of sharing. Sensing the space and all that that includes. Excited about allowing anything and everything to happen and in that acceptance, allowing the unknown to unfold. Without judgment, letting the intelligence of life to come through. All things are constantly changing; I would like to enjoy these changes.
